  • Overview

     The Buyer position supports the Ajinomoto Foods North America Portland plant goals by planning and ordering materials, internally and externally, as required for daily production.  This position also helps to support a second plant, Ajinomoto Toyo Frozen Noodles, Inc. which is also located in Portland.

    Responsibilities

    • Review material requirement and inventory quantities to identify materials that require to be purchased, place purchase orders, confirm price to meet production requirements.
    • Utilize requisition and MRP order system and WMS for procuring raw materials, packaging materials, and operational supplies with consideration to quality, quantity, and lead time requirements.
    • Confirm purchase order price, delivery, specification, items, and services ordered with vendors
    • Review approved purchase requisitions and place purchase orders for supplies and/or services that meet company quality, quantity, availability, delivery timing, and price requirements.
    • Obtain quotations, prepare, and place purchase orders for all inventory items, small equipment, and miscellaneous supplies.
    • Analyze and remain current with all internal and external requirements for all sources of supply in terms of regulation, specifications, delivery conditions, and price to meet production and quality requirements.
    • Confirm delivery of food and packaging inventory with warehouse; check receiving transaction and quality verification with warehouse personnel when needed.
    • Notify department manager(s) when materials, supplies, or services received do not meet approved quality standards.
    • Follow-up and communicate with suppliers regarding PO adjustments, quality, incorrect quantities, and delivery issues.
    • Inform Purchasing Department team of changing market conditions and risks as they occur.
    • Promote good supplier relationships to maintain stable supply.
    • Source operation supplies and vendors; analyze price, terms, and conditions as directed or within established guidelines.
    • Generate weekly and monthly reports of usages and pricing of materials and identify any report changes to department heads
    • Identify procurement needs from internal warehouse
    • Create daily material transfers from PDX warehouse. Communicate these needs to all Supply Chain groups in a timely manner
    • Understand the entire transfer process for a 7 days production facility and implement improvements as needed
    • Navigate through JD Edwards understanding the unique relationship link between the AFNA branch and ATFN branch
    • Handle all aspects of daily material transfer between AFNA warehouse locations and ATFN
    • Offer JDE accuracy support to all groups including PI, Accounting, Inventory and Planning

    Qualifications

    • At least three years related experience and/or training in a production environment
    • JDE experience preferred
    • Enterprise Resource Planning experience preferred
    • Bachelors Degree (BA or BS) from a four year college or university preferred
