    The foods at Ajinomoto Foods North America, are crafted with the utmost care and respect, using only the finest ingredients for an ever-lasting flavor and memory.  Quality, innovation, and collaboration are at the core of everything we do.  We are seeking a R&D Food Technologist to our goal of maximizing Customer satisfaction through the development of highest quality & value products in a timely, accurate, & professional manner. Must have a good balance between scientific and culinary sense applying engineering principles and creativity to product research, development, production technology, quality control, packaging, processing, and utilization of foods.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist R&D management in the research and development activities for new product development and product improvements.
    • Develops new and improved methods and systems for food processing, production, quality control, packaging, and distribution.
    • Research methods and apply them to improve food quality like flavor, appearance texture, aroma, nutritional value, convenience and other related attributes to maximize the customer’s experience.
    • Tests new and existing products in test kitchen using multiple test methods for a wide variety of purposes and objectives.
    • Assist in conducting production tests and can follow direction with no problems for commercializing products.
    • Creates new and improved product samples for both testing internally and providing prototypes for potential clients.
    • Consults and intelligently discusses with experts and specialists in all fields like ingredients, packaging, food process, machinery, sales & Marketing, and other related areas.
    • Meet with vendors to acquire and discuss new product ingredients and packaging.
    • Develop not only new food, but packaging styles with creative & packaging specialists.
    • Assist in organizing and in scheduling events, tests, tastings, shipping of samples, receiving of samples, and keep track of general deadlines.
    • Ability to create R&D documents (Assessment, Recipes, breakdowns, cost calculations, etc…)
    • Calculate and resolve problems that become obstacles to the R&D agenda and goals of satisfying customers through the development of high quality products.
    • Working with designers, photo studios, and other marketing specialists to complete packaging of new & revised food items developed.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university with a major in Food Science and Technology is preferred, but not required.
    • Candidates without undergraduate degrees should have three to four years related experience and/or training in food related fields.
    • Must be professional, accurate, flexible, and able to work with different people and deal with diversity.
    • Must have a strong desire to perform one’s best in all situations and understand and appreciate the meaning of superior product quality and how it affects the Customer.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, recipes and other food related documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from group of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
    • Ability to read and write fluently in English.
    • Japanese language skill is preferred, but not required.
    • Ability to work with mathematical concept as probability and concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions to practical situations.
    • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
    • Ability to convert basic measurements quickly between metric and US customary unit measurements.
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize and organize all assigned tasks, as well as following up and updating superiors with regular progress reports.
    • Ability to recognize trends in the general foodservice and retail food market.
    • A valid driver’s license and passport are required.
    • A dependable form of personal motorized transportation with adequate cargo capacity is required.
    • Food safety training is recommended.
    • Food regulation and food law knowledge is recommended.
