  • Overview

    Accountable for planning, directing, coordinating and managing the employees work activities and resources necessary for the sanitation process and manufacturing products during the 3rd shift of operation. This includes supervision of Sanitation Supervisors, sanitarians and janitors; including successful employee transitions from plant manufacturing to sanitation and sanitation to plant manufacturing. These duties are to be performed in accordance with established occupational safety, food safety, quality, cost, and quantity specifications. The individual in this role must be comfortable working proactively and independently in a fast paced environment that is subject to long hours (routinely 10+ hours) including evenings and on-call status.


    Departmental Responsibilities


    • Ensure 100% compliance with Master Sanitation Schedule
    • Develop and enforce plant Sanitation Standard Operation Procedures (SSOPS); maintain SQF Policies and procedures and the Sanitation Manual.
    • Develops and manages budget and cost control performance indicators.
    • Determines staffing requirements and plans for the appropriate selection, training, and evaluation of all personnel within Production and Packing operations. 
    • Provides for the safety of all personnel by strict observance of safety rules and regulations. 
    • Act as liaison with federal and state agencies to ensure plant compliance and regulatory issues. 
    • Compile and generate period Sanitation Audit results, SQF audit result and environmental data to management 
    • Ensure approved chemicals and processes for all Sanitation functions and SSOP’s are followed at all times. 
    • Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials. 
    • Maintain Daily Sanitation documentation to verify sanitation activities. 
    • Documents corrective action for all deficiencies noted on SQF, pre-operational and corporate audits 
    • Directs training and indoctrination of workers to improve work performance and acquaint workers with company policies and procedures. 
    • Confers with other management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve production problems and recommends measures to improve upon the operations and utilization of machines and equipment. 
    • Prepares and maintains efficiency and variance reports to monitor daily KPI. 
    • Through coordination with other departments, ensures that the facility is prepared for cleaning by ensuring there is an effective shut down and startup of the production process while maintaining the compliance on the sanitation processes. 
    • Recommend and/or manages continuous improvement in a way that engages employees and functional partners in systematic, effective and collaborative manner. 
    • Spends approximately 80% of time on the production floor engaging with employees and overseeing plant sanitation 
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Regulatory Compliance Aspects:


    • Provides support for Ajinomoto Foods safety initiatives including active participation in Hayward Safety team. 
    • Indirect responsibility for quality and food safety costs and financial benefits to Ajinomoto Foods through compliance to specifications, regulatory performance and reduced customer complaints.



    •  Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience and educations.
    • 3-5 years sanitation or related experience in a USDA food manufacturing facility
    • Knowledge in HACCP, Microbiology, Sanitation, Chemical Safety,
    •  Understand and comply with government regulations relating to OSHA, FDA, USDA, and EPA
    •  Experience with computer application systems.
    • Must have advanced skills in Microsoft Office components.
    •  Excellent management, organization skills, and negotiating skills.
    •  Self-starter who is able to make changes and improve processes.
    •  Ability to work 3rd shift, but also flexibility in work schedule, able to work periodically on a shift rotation

    • Mentoring – ability to mentor other Sanitation team members in technical knowledge and Sanitation management skills. 
    • Communication Skills – excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing and presentation skills. 
    • Organizational Skills – excellent people and organizational skills. 
    • Judgment/Decision Making – ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate business judgement and recommendations independent of supervisor. 
    • Computer Skills – working knowledge of Microsoft based software, including Excel, Word and Outlook. 
    • Other – ability to elicit internal and external support; good interpersonal skills; ability to work under pressure and short time lines, prioritizing multiple projects with various simultaneous deadlines, as well as attention to detail with accuracy.

    • Valid Driver’s License, clean driving record
