  • Overview

    Position is responsible for planning and directing all aspects of engineering activities within Ajinomoto Windsor, Inc. Position will work closely with Plant Management on key capital projects to ensure overall alignment, best practices and effective allocation of resources. This position interfaces regularly with other Ajinomoto Windsor, Inc. management to establish plant strategies and guidelines to meet company short and long-term objectives. Plant engineers/maintenance teams have a dotted line reporting relationship into this position.

    Responsibilities

    • Directs project resources on a project basis including outside contractors, vendors, consultants, and plant engineering and maintenance personnel.
    • Develop and lead a strong, competent engineering team that possesses excellent leadership skills, strong manufacturing and operations expertise, clear and effective communication skills and a commitment to deliver results in support of Company objectives. Provide mentoring and development to plant project engineers.
    • Drives technical solutions and ensures effective project management on all key projects, major maintenance, and other critical facility work. 
    • Directs the Capital Appropriation Program and ensures overall alignment and continuity to key business objectives and strategies.
    • Work with Operations to determine the need and plans for capital equipment and plant expansion requirements to support the company’s long-range and short-range strategic objectives.
    • Prepare annual engineering budget based on sales needs, customer requirements, government regulations, technological changes, continuous improvement, and food safety needs.
    • Ensure proper utilization of systems as necessary to achieve effective management and cost control; ensure compliance with corporate and division policies and procedures. Recommend changes when appropriate.
    • Coordinate and direct activities of engineering process to provide facility processing technology to support R&D and marketing requirements for new products and process development. Facilitates commercialization by providing the bridge between R & D and plant operations.
    • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and governmental agencies. 
    • Evaluate sustainable options and solutions to support recycling, resource reductions, lower energy costs, and reduce green house gas.
    • Make recommendations to appropriate marketing and sales personnel based on technological changes and modifications: coordinate and collaborate with other functional areas in establishing and carrying out responsibilities.
    • Coordinate and direct activities of plant project engineering and maintenance departments to provide factory continuous improvement, facility upkeep and prudent equipment replacement. 
    • Develops standards, procedures, and processes to enhance consistency, utilize best practices, and bring standardization to project engineering.

    Qualifications

    • A Bachelor's in Engineering is required.
    • 10+ years of industry experience in food manufacturing that can be evaluated and documented by respective accomplishments and increased responsibilities.
    • 3+ years of this overall experience in a multi-plant managerial role or executive role, + 5 yrs. as a Plant Engineering Manager or Maintenance Manager.
    • Demonstrated success in managing large capital projects within budget and on-time.
    • Direct experience in a USDA manufacturing environment
    • Experience in leading, directing, and managing technical resources for a multi-site food manufacturing operation.
    • A demonstrated understanding of environmental regulatory compliance, safety regulatory compliance, food quality and food safety programs.
    • Management of capital budget and planning program in excess of $10MM annually.
